Chatoyancy
A unique optical property that gives the stone a wavy, silky shimmer when light hits it. This effect is caused by the stone’s intergrown fibers.
Color
Tiger’s eye is usually a rich golden yellow, but can sometimes be so deep that it appears bronze. It can also be red or blue.
Luster
The stone’s silky luster is the result of a process called pseudomorphosis, where quartz crystals replace crocidolite fibers over millions of years.
Appearance
When cut into a cabochon, tiger’s eye resembles a tiger’s eye, which is how it got its name.
Sources
Tiger’s eye is found in many places, including Australia, Burma, India, Namibia, South Africa, the United States, Brazil, Canada, China, Korea, and Spain
